Here's what you need to know - Wine & Dine Festival 2017, Halloween parties, free outdoors yoga classes and much more. For F&B, new openings worth looking into are a new Kowloon-side Italian restaurant with stunning views, a meat bar by the Pirata group and a health food cafe. I'm still loving Ying Jee Club (a recommendation from last month, the food is divine but $$$). Bitters and Sweets has been a bar favourite but I urge you to venture out to the Kowloon side to try Red Sugar, the bar at the Kerry Hotel (pictured above, it's become my go-to place to take friends, family and visitors - a review on the blog is coming soon!)
Check back in 2 weeks later for November's lifestyle article, which will include details on a charming Motor Festival happening out on the Gold Coast and Hong Kong's largest music and arts festival Clockenflap.
To eat and drink
Restaurant | Paper Moon | Tsim Sha Tsui - Originating from Milan, Paper Moon which recently opened at Harbour City brings unpretentious, homey Italian cuisine to the Kowloon-side. Their menu offers classic Italian dishes, from appetisers like stewed baby octopus to decadent pizzas made using their 1.4-tonne imported Ambrogi pizza oven, pastas and tasty desserts. With unobstructed views of Victoria Harbour, Paper Moon is also a great place for cocktails. Menu.
Restaurant | Meats | Central - Described as a "meat bar", MEATS is the newest concept from the Pirata Group, which has opened a spate of successful restaurants in Hong Kong this year including Pici and Tokyolima (one of my favourite new restaurant openings of the year). Traditional and unique cuts are cooked using a range of methods, from smoking to charcoal grilling and so on. The soft opening is on October 21 & 22 (see here for event details) and see here for a glimpse at their previous pop up restaurant menu.
Cafe | nood food Pacific Place | Admiralty - Located on the ground floor next to the new Pure Yoga, nood food is Pure's healthy raw food cafe. They offer a range of wholesome unprocessed and additive-free foods such as wraps, salads, soups, sandwiches, smoothies and cold-pressed juices. I love the chicken guacamole wrap, Happy Apple cold-pressed juice and all the salad choices I've tried are fantastic.
Bar | Bitters and Sweets | Central - A chic, sophisticated restaurant and cocktail lounge in Central. Not a new bar, but it's a place I've been frequenting a lot lately and I recently held my birthday drinks here. Great for drinks with colleagues, friends, large groups. The customer service here is -amazing- (the bar manager Joe is incredibly attentive and generous) and the cocktails are fantastic (my favourite is February 21st).
Bar | Red Sugar at the Kerry Hotel | Hung Hom Bay - Red Sugar is the bar at the Kerry Hotel, a brand under the Shangri-La group. From the outdoor terrace you'll be greeted with stunning 270-degree panoramic views of the Hong Kong skyline and the leafy greens really do make it feel like an urban oasis. Food and drinks are very affordable (a fraction of the prices in Central) and they're doing fantastic happy hour deals daily from 4-7pm. I know it's far out on the Kowloon side, but if even I'm willing to put in the effort to get there (I *hate* travelling to Kowloon) then you know there's got to be something special about this place.
Bar | Sake Central | Central - A sleek new bar and retail space in Soho's PMQ, Sake Central aims to bring some of the best and rarest sakes to Hong Kong and to educate the public about Japanese food and culture. The intimate 16-seater offers a wide variety of tipples from breweries in Japan and overseas. Pair your sakes with some delicious otsunami snacks and take a look at some of the stunning ceramics and glassware in their brand showroom.
To see and do
Perfume Shop | Buly 1803 | Central - Also known as L'Officine Universelle Buly, this luxury Parisian apothecary opened doors to its Central flagship store last month but it remains a hidden gem. The boutique offers over 600 products made from all natural ingredients, including their Eau Triple water-based emulsion perfumes (that don't stain fabrics), fragrant facial creams, soaps and luxurious lotions, with hand-written labels and all bottled in France. Get your purchase customised with elegant calligraphy and personalised gift wrapping. It's worth visiting the shop even just to see the interior - the tall mahogany wood and glass shelves are spellbinding and hark back to 19th century Paris.
